To ALL ROTARY DISTRICT 5360 MEMBERS
Rotary District to Match Donations up to $25,000 for ShelterBox

Earlier this week, I made a plea (below) for support for the people of Nepal following the devastating earthquakes in that country. I want to report that we have enjoyed a great response with over $15,000 in contributions to ShelterBox through our District 5360 ShelterBox campaign. Thank you for your generosity and please keep up the great work because each report from Nepal reports greater losses..........greater need!

The District has established a target of $25,000 for donations from members and clubs and the District has also agreed to match this amount .I am certain we will report ovewhelming success at the conclusion of the District Conference on May 10. We have already reached over 60% of the target so lets continue to demonstrate the wonderful generosity of the Rotarians in District 5360. Although the cost of one ShelterBox is $1200 all contributions are welcome and will be matched by the District up to an aggregate $25,000.

See below for ShelterBox donation and contact details.
As individuals and as Clubs we can support Shelterbox.  It is quick and meaningful, and we know we are making a difference.

While this is the best option for immediate assistance, we will also be considering in due course whether or not to recommend projects with a longer  term objective.  We are gathering information from various sources and will advise.

Thank you for your caring and generosity.

A devastating earthquake hit the Kathmandu Valley of Nepal on April 25, 2015.
Hundreds were killed and thousands injured. The survivors face cold, rainy weather, but can't risk returning to their damaged homes.  They need shelter.
ShelterBox already has some materials in Nepal and immediately deployed a Response Team.  See http://www.shelterboxcanada.org for the latest information.
ShelterBox is the official Project Partner of Rotary International. It is the best Rotary-way to make a very clear and tangible difference for survivors now and in the coming weeks.  Rotary individuals and clubs can help ShelterBox to deliver tents and other essentials to the families most in need.
A “Rotary 5360 – Nepal Earthquake” fundraising page has been created to make it easy to contribute and to see the great impact that clubs and Rotarians are making.

There are several easy ways to make a donation and we'll be able to see the District 5360 contribution grow on this page:
  • Contribute via credit card via the link.  Your contribution will be listed on your club’s page. https://shelterboxcanada.myetap.org/fundraiser/fundraising/team.do?participationRef=1215.0.127657050
  • Telephone toll free with your credit card to 1-855-875-4661.  Ask them to add it to the Rotary D5360 fundraising page.
  • Mail a cheque to ShelterBox Canada, #2 - 159 Jane St., Toronto, ON, M6S 3Y8. Please include a bold note "Add to Rotary D5360 fundraising page"
  • Get a cheque to one of the Rotary ShelterBox Ambassadors. They'll be happy to answer any of your questions.

Tax receipts will be issued for individual donations of $20 or more.

Note from ShelterBox Canada Chair Kent Fraser -  ShelterBox is committed to responding to the families devastated by the earthquake in Nepal. When a major disaster, such as the earthquake in Nepal occurs, we already have our aid on the ground before many new donations are received. While we cannot, therefore, accept donations specifically for the Nepal Crisis, your donation ensures that we are ready to help families in desperate need as soon as disaster strikes.

At this time, ShelterBox Canada will not be submitting donations for matching to the Canadian Government. In order for organizations to participate in matching, they must guarantee that all money claimed will be used in Nepal. For ShelterBox to continue to be able to provide aid anywhere in the world immediately when it is needed, we cannot guarantee that all funds raised will be spent in Nepal at this time.
