GIFT OF HOPE

There are at least 2000 High River residents still unable to return to their homes and even a greater number who have yet to return to a normal life.  These are people who are living with friends, family or in temporary accommodation, worrying about how to resurrect their homes, gather basic possessions and rebuild their lives. Raising the spirits of the needy at Christmas is a high priority for the Rotary Club in High River and they are appealing to all of us to help rebuild their community.

The event is called the GIFT OF HOPE and is a community Christmas luncheon/dinner that will take place on Sunday, December 15.  The RC of High River will host 700 needy citizens (financially and emotionally) in that community. GIFT OF HOPE requires both "hands on" participation and financial support.  This emails is an invitation for Rotary Clubs, Rotarians, Rotaractors and Interactors to participate both financially and by working at the event on that date.

The event will include two sessions (350 each); a luncheon for families and a dinner for adults.  Singer/actor Tom Jackson has generously agreed to arrange entertainment for the luncheon and will provide a free concert following the evening dinner.  Volunteers will work the event, hopefully with the assistance of many Rotarians and families from clubs outside of High River.  The task will include cooking, serving and greeting.

Our Christmas brunch is happening that day so if we want to help it will have to be for the supper.  Please let Carol ckundrik@telus.net know by November 15, 2013 whether you would like to drive up to assist with the supper and she will contact the coordinators of the event.  It would be great if we could drive up together in a couple of vehicles.  If you as an individual want to make an individual contribution, cheques can be sent to the Rotary Club of High River, Box 5152, High River, AB T1V 1M4 with a note designating the money for GIFT OF HOPE.
