I have always been aware of Rotary from the many fundraising functions that Rotary puts on during the year, but I was not aware of all the roles that Rotary fills in the local community as well as the international community.  I first became aware of the student exchange role when my niece was accepted as an exchange student.  This piqued my interest and it started the process of becoming more aware of the many functions that Rotary fills.

Also at the same time as my niece went on her Rotary exchange, my own children started to move out and my own personal life was undergoing changes.  I suddenly had more time to pursue my own interests.  One day when talking with my sister, Carol, she mentioned in passing that she was going to a Rotary breakfast.  We talked further about Rotary and my interest was further piqued. Carol invited me to attend with her and I accepted.  I started to attend regularly and as I learned more about Rotary, the more I realized how Rotary matched my own personal value system and goals.  The next logical step was to join which I did.  The rest is history.
