Why did I join Rotary?

Because of Dragon Boating!! Well..sort of!

In 2008, the Rotary Festival Committee decided to "beef up" the training provided to the festival teams and asked me to be one of the festival Head Coaches.

Being Co-Head Coach for the Rotary Festival over the past 2 years, meant that I worked closely with Fran and Inga, and it was through them that I became a member of Rotary (Charter member of Urban Spirits, now at Sunrise).  Not only do I respect the fact that Fran and Inga live the spirit of dragon boating, but also of Rotary.  And once I understood the philosophy of Rotary,  I felt that  I had finally found the organization that would assist me to become the person I strive to be.

My parents and family have always volunteered their time to make their community a better place, so I have lived the life of giving.

I believe in the Four-Way Test.

Is it the truth?

Is it fair to all concerned?

Will it bring goodwill and better friendships?

Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

I strive to make a difference, and to do it honestly and with care and respect.  My mission is to be respected and valued as a mother, friend, employee and volunteer; and to always try and understand, not pass judgment.

I intend to drum to the heartbeat of the world.

Ps. My career also has me in close proximity of many great Rotarians. And I would gladly pay the loonie fine to sit each meeting with my favorite friend Dorinda!
