Dragonboat Update 2 Feb 2022

Dragonboats ---Crossing the Finish Line

The LRDBF Planning Committee has been meeting on a monthly basis and planning is well underway. Registrations for the Festival are now open. All positions are filled with the exception of the Volunteer Coordinator (pending) and Safety Coordinator (in process of contacting 2 possible candidates). Planning is also occurring for the 20th Anniversary of the Festival and a Media event will occur to announce the LRDBF is ready to “rumble”.  In consultation with Alberta Health, a COVID Restrictions and Vaccination Policy as well as a Cancellation Policy are approved. Regular communication occurs between the Presidents and the Festival Planning Committee and with DASA. The Volunteer Coordinator will access the support services provided by Volunteer Services. This is available with a membership as a registered association. A recommendation for funding is requested.

Members please consider volunteering at the time of the event.   Many volunteers are needed.

3K Run

Secret 3K Update

On Wednesday, 2 March at 6pm at the Kinsmen Picnic Shelter at Henderson Lake Park in Lethbridge , we encourage people from the Lethbridge area to participate in the Secret 3km run/walk for Equality.
This is the 4th year that Lethbridge has hosted the event that is held during International Women's Week.
This year's event is being held at a time when the women and children of Afghanistan are severely impacted by the Taliban takeover of their country.
Women can no longer participate in Afghan society - they can no longer go to school - they can no longer work . Women and children do not have access to the main staples of life, such as food and basic health care.
The women of Afghanistan need your support.
By registering for the Secret 3k, you will be supporting the Canadian Women for the Women of Afghsnistan, a registered charity that delivers education and support to Afghan women.
Please register for the run/walk at the Secret 3k website.

Snowshoe Outing

Snowshoeing in Waterton

Several of us are thinking of going snowshoeing the evening of Feb 16, 2022 in Waterton.  This is a full moon evening.  We did this a couple of times a few years ago and took some of the exchange students with us.

We would drive up on the 16th around four, have dinner in Waterton and then snowshoe to Cameron Lake.  People can drive back to Lethbridge that evening or stay overnight if they choose.

This particular showshoe trail is relatively flat and short.  I believe it is about 1.5 km to the lake so about 3 km round trip.

We will only go if the weather is good and clear and roads are good.  We won't make a final decision on that until the 11th or 12th but wanted to see if anyone who wasn't at the meeting on Thursday was also interested.

If you are interested let me know and we can make plans next weekend.  If you aren't interested there is no need to respond.
