Lethbridge is bidding for the 2019 Canada Winter Games and needs your help: just show up and be part of a big crowd to wow the pants off the Selection Committee on Thursday, August 21.
There will be a breakfast at 8am at the Enmax arena (to which you can send family and friends because you will be at our regular Rotary Sunrise meeting where we will be greeting our Inbound Exchange student, Paco), and a lunchtime festival in Galt Gardens at noon. All you have to do is show up, wearing sports attire if you have any (dragonboat shirts would work). Your body in the crowd is all that's needed to show the Selection Committee how much Lethbridge wants to host the Games!
When you show up, you are not doing it just for the sports, for the athletes, for our economy, or to give our community one more reason to celebrate; you are doing it for all of the above and more.
Marty Boogaart and others meet with Fred Horne, Minister of Health, to discuss issues related to Early Onset Alzheimer's. Read the story by following the link:
Clark Ferguson, recently of Lethbridge Sunrise and now living in Toronto, sent the following message to be shared with members of the Club:
"A short note to update you on my Rotary membership. I have joined this club [Rotary Sunrise Club of Toronto], effective this morning [Tuesday, July 15]. I look forward to sharing my experiences with Rotary in Lethbridge with this club. Last weekend we moved to longer term leased accommodation, a 10 minute walk from my Rotary club and a total of 22 minutes from my office. A week ago, I joined Marketwired in a full time role as VP Infrastructure & Security. So things are finally starting to settle for us in Toronto. More news shortly."
The Rotary Clubs of Lethbridge have committed to 110 donations through our "Partners for Life" agreement with Canadian Blood Services, for 2014. As of July 7, we have 53 donations which puts us a little behind target at the midway point of the year.
The need for blood is critical with blood supplies being at a 5 year low. As of July 7, the Lethbridge clinic needs 542 more people to book appointments for the month of July. Please consider booking an appointment whether you are a regular donor, a lapsed donor, or a first time donor. By taking one hour of your time, you will saving or enhancing someone's life. If you are not registered with Rotary's "Partners for Life" simply let them know at the clinic and they will add you to the list.
Family members and friends can also register to be included as RC Sunrise "partners".
